Information Summary:
PP rope for towing is widely used in ship towing, port operations, and various light-duty towing scenarios due to its lightweight, good buoyancy, and moderate cost. However, its service life is not fixed in actual use and is affected by various environmental and usage conditions.
The usage environment is one of the most critical factors. Although PP material has a certain degree of weather resistance, long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation will cause molecular chain aging, manifested as rope hardening, decreased strength, and even surface powdering. During long-term use at sea or outdoors, alternating sunlight and rain will accelerate this process, significantly shortening its service life.

The mode of stress also directly affects the durability of PP rope for towing. When the rope is under prolonged overload tension, irreversible fatigue damage will occur in the internal fiber structure. Even without breakage, the overall load-bearing capacity will gradually decrease. Frequent impact loads, such as sudden changes in force during towing, will also accelerate fiber breakage and structural loosening.
Friction and wear are also factors that cannot be ignored. During towing operations, ropes frequently come into contact with the hull, metal parts, or rough surfaces, and continuous friction causes gradual wear of the outer fibers. Once the outer protective structure is damaged, the internal fibers are more susceptible to environmental influences, further shortening their lifespan.
Furthermore, storage and maintenance conditions also affect lifespan. Prolonged exposure to humid, high-temperature, or polluted environments will gradually degrade the performance of PP materials, especially when exposed to oil or chemicals, which accelerates the aging process.
In practical applications, some specialized manufacturers, such as FRHE, extend the overall lifespan of PP rope for towing by optimizing the weave structure, improving UV-resistant formulations, and enhancing the wear-resistant layer design, ensuring stable performance even under complex working conditions.
The lifespan of PP rope for towing is not determined by a single factor, but rather by the combined effects of environment, stress, wear, and material properties. Proper use and selection of appropriate specifications are key to extending its service life.
